Parnassus Books welcomes Nashville author Jason Miller reading from and signing Red Dog.
Set in southern Illinois, Red Dog vividly captures the tone and texture of this unique region—a Midwest Gothic wonderland of barren vistas, sinister hollows, deeply strange characters, and corruption with roots as deep as a mineshaft. In this dark land, Slim—the former coalminer turned PI—is hired to locate a missing pitbull, which the owners believe was dognapped. After some small fuss, Slim locates the pup named Shelby Ann, but he is arrested after the dognapper is found with his head blown off and the local authorities suspect Slim.
The subsequent search for the killer leads Slim into the horrifying world of rural dogfighting and white supremacy militias. Entrenched in this world, Slim gets in way over his head. Threatened, kidnapped, and tortured, he is left stunned by his treacherous circumstances. On Slim’s quest to uncover the secret behind that missing red dog, he discovers an underground criminal conspiracy larger than anything he could have anticipated.
Jason Miller is half of the Miller Brothers writing team, creators of the critically acclaimed graphic novel Redball 6. He lives in Nashville, Tennessee.
