Author event with George Wilkerson, author of (You Don't Know) The Half of It

(You Don't Know) The Half of It is the story of two people, one public (George) and one private (Bobbi), the latter in hiding until George was nearly 45 years old. The story of their lives is told by Bobbi who, though in the shadows for much of the time, was still a major influence. She takes us through George's childhood in Brooklyn, his college years, his time as Academic Dean of Austin Community College, then as Technical Writer for Shell Oil in Nigeria, Dell Computers, and Radian International (an environmental engineering company), and later as a writer and performer with the “Esther’s Follies” comedy troupe, and as a stand-up comic. Only able to 'escape' on a limited basis, Bobbi observes as along the way George struggles with accepting her—his "other self."
George Wilkerson and Bobbi Williams are two aspects of the same person. George was a Technical Writer and a teacher of Composition and Literature for more than 40 years. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in English at SUNY Geneseo, a Master’s Degree in playwriting at Syracuse University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Texas at Austin, where he later became the first Dean of Instruction at the newly formed Austin Community College. He also was one of the original members of Esther’s Follies (a satirical comedy and music revue in Austin) writing sketches and musical parodies which are performed by the group to this day. A collection of those sketches, called the River City Revue, was produced in Austin by the Gaslight Theatre and he collaborated with the composer Robert Skiles on the musical comedy MondoTexas and on ROBOCLAUS, a children’s Christmas musical. He currently teaches English Composition part-time at Columbia State Community College. His Dr. Write web site [] provides support for students and teachers using his textbook Analyzing Short Stories.
Bobbi is the author of articles and short stories with Transgender themes. She was a founding member of the Central Texas Transgender Society, served as Secretary of New York's Transgender Independence Club and was on the Steering committee of the National Coalition for LGBT Health. She also served as Director and on the board of Rainbow Access Initiative (RAI), (a New York State program devoted to training Health and Human Services professionals in the New York state capital region in LGBT health matters). She has  written numerous articles for online and print publications and is the author Me & Bobbi & the Gyrls (a collection of stories and reflections), Transfxed a mystery novel, and a memoir, (You Don’t Know) The Half of It which was published in February of this year.
