Author event with Gary Slaughter author of The Journey of an Inquiring Mind

Parnassus Books is happy to welcome Gary Slaughter author of The Journey of an Inquiring Mind: From Scholar, Naval Officer, and Entrepreneur to Novelist.

This memoir records, in great detail, Gary Slaughter’s life of work during the 40 years before he met his wife, Joanne, and the story of their business lives together over the past 40 years.

Gary’s life of work included a wide variety of careers, jobs, sports, and hobbies that he mastered during the eight decades of his life. Using his award-winning, story-telling ability, he describes his life of work beginning with his first entrepreneurial endeavor as a six-year-old egg merchandizer on his grandparents’ farm.

Gary’s junior-high school career as a bait-supplier netted money to pay for 1½ years of college. Odd jobs throughout high school added to the fund.  Honing his business acumen through his college years at the University of Michigan, he traces his Naval career, highly successful information-technology businesses, and finally to his decades-long career as an award-winning novelist.

Gary Slaughter was born and raised in Owosso, Michigan. After graduating from the University of Michigan, he served seven years, during the Cold War, as a naval officer on anti-submarine warfare (ASW) destroyers.  Following his distinguished military service, Gary became an expert on managing corporate information technology. He traveled extensively, lecturing and consulting to clients in the United States and abroad.

In 2002, he put his business career on hold and began writing the Cottonwood series, five award-winning novels, depicting life on the World War II home front.  In 2014, Gary’s Sea Stories was published. This compelling, sometimes humorous, and always fascinating true story is told against the background of a decade of tense relations with the Soviet Union.

In 2019, Gary and Joanne, his wife and business partner for the past four decades, co-authored The Journey of an Inquiring Mind.
